Sudoku is a logic puzzle: no arithmetic, just careful reasoning. Paperoom builds every grid from a valid solution and removes clues only while a solver confirms there is still exactly one answer.
How to play
- Each puzzle is a square grid divided into boxes. Some squares already contain numbers.
- Fill the empty squares so that every row contains each number once.
- Every column must also contain each number once.
- Each outlined box must contain each number once too.
- There is only one correct solution. If you get stuck, look for a row, column or box that is missing just one or two numbers.
Tips
- New to sudoku? Start with a 4 × 4 grid using the numbers 1 to 4, then move up to 6 × 6.
- Use a pencil and write small candidate numbers in the corner of a square while you think.
- Print the answer key on a separate sheet so a classroom or family can check work later.
- Large print gives one big puzzle per page for comfortable reading.
Where it comes from
Number-placement puzzles like this were published in the United States in the late 1970s under the name Number Place. The Japanese puzzle publisher Nikoli popularised them as sudoku in the 1980s, and the name became known worldwide in the 2000s.

Questions
Does every puzzle have exactly one solution?
Yes. After each clue is removed, a solver checks that only one solution remains. If a removal would allow a second solution, the clue stays.
How is the difficulty chosen?
Easy puzzles keep more clues and hard puzzles keep fewer. Difficulty is based on the number of clues, so some puzzles at the same level may feel easier than others.
Can I make the same puzzles again?
Yes. Enter a repeatable seed and keep the same settings to recreate the identical set, including the answer key.
Can I use these in a classroom?
Yes. Turn on name and date lines, choose the paper size used by your printer, and print the answer key separately.
