Use your own charades, drawing ideas, revision prompts, or conversation starters. Each unique prompt appears once; the last page may have empty spaces.
Prompt cards hold one idea each: an action to act out, an object to draw, a revision question or a conversation starter. Paperoom sets your prompts on cards with dashed cut lines, six, nine or twelve to a page. Each unique prompt appears once, and the last page may have empty spaces.
How to play
- Print the sheets and cut along the dashed lines so each prompt becomes a separate card.
- Shuffle the cards before you start, or generate them with Shuffle prompts turned on.
- Place the cards face down in a pile on the table.
- Take the top card and read it silently, so the other players cannot see it.
- Act it out, draw it, or start a conversation about it. The other players guess, sketch or respond.
- Agree on a gentle time limit together, and allow a pass or a partner if someone would like one.
Tips
- Keep each prompt short. The maker accepts up to 80 characters per line, but a few words are easier to act or draw at a glance.
- Choose six cards per page for the most room to draw or write, or twelve for a compact pile.
- Mix the kinds of prompt, such as an action, an object, a sound and a feeling, so the game keeps moving.
- Print and cut one test sheet first, to check the card sizes and that the dashed lines sit where you expect.
- Leave out private names and personal details on cards that will be shared, and check that each prompt suits your group.
Where it comes from
Acting out a word or phrase for others to guess, known as charades, is a parlour game played in many countries, and its origins are not well documented. Prompt cards follow the same simple pattern of one card, one idea and one round at a time, whether the prompt is an action, a drawing or a question for discussion.
Questions
How many cards fit on a page?
Six, nine or twelve, chosen when you generate the sheets. Fewer cards per page give more room to draw or write, and more cards per page use less paper.
Can I shuffle the prompts?
Yes. Turn on Shuffle prompts when you generate the sheets to mix the order. Turn it off to keep the order you wrote.
How many prompts can I include?
Up to 120 lines, each up to 80 characters, in any script. Repeated lines are removed, so each unique prompt appears once.
What happens if the prompts do not fill the last page?
The last page keeps any empty spaces. You can add more prompts later and generate the sheets again.
Can I save my prompts for another time?
Yes. Save your setup as a file and load it later. Generated cards are not stored in the file, so generate the sheets again after loading.
