# Scavenger hunt maker

> Make a free printable scavenger hunt with your own items: a checklist or find-and-draw sheet, one copy per team, optional shuffle. A4 or Letter.

A searching game for any group that can walk, look and share. Teams race down a list of things to find, or slow down and draw each find, which trains the eye for detail. Paperoom prints one sheet per team, and each copy can be shuffled so the groups do not all head to the same spot first.

## How to play

1. Print one sheet for each team, and give every player a pencil or crayon.
2. Set the boundary before anyone starts: the garden, the room or the path, plus a meeting point.
3. Checklist: tick each item when your team has found it. Find and draw: sketch the thing in its box rather than taking it.
4. Play for a set time. Stop when the time is up or when every item is found, then check the finds together.
5. Count the ticks, or the best drawings, to decide the winner. Agree on that before the hunt begins.

## Tips

- Choose items that can be found without picking, moving or disturbing anything. Leave out anything living, fragile or unsafe to touch.
- For young children, use one column and bigger items, and pair each child with an adult.
- Use the find-and-draw style on a walk where nothing should be collected, or for a quieter group.
- Print on thicker paper, or slip the sheet into a plastic wallet if it might rain.

## Where it comes from

Scavenger hunts are list-based searching games played at parties, in classrooms, on nature walks and on trips. Teams race to find or photograph each item. The find-and-draw version is slower and rewards noticing details, which suits younger children and quieter groups.

## Questions

### How many items should a list have?

Ten to twenty suits most outings. Paperoom accepts up to 60 items, each up to 60 characters, and removes exact repeats so every item appears once.

### Can players photograph items instead of ticking them?

Yes. Many teams photograph each find rather than collecting it. Agree on that rule before you start, and check your group's rules on phones.

### Why print one copy per team?

Each team needs its own sheet to tick or draw on. With the shuffle option, every copy after the first has a different order, so teams search different places first.

### Is it safe for young children?

Keep children within sight and set clear boundaries. Choose items that can be found without picking, moving or disturbing anything.
